Europe 2016

First leg of our 2016 Europe Trip was from Fredericksburg, Tx. to London, Canada and then to Goose Bay, Canada.

Getting ready to take off at 11:00 am this morning from Goose Bay Labrador heading to Nuuk Greenland.

Arriving Nuuk Greenland

Flight today from Nuuk Greenland to Reykjavik Iceland

Had to remove a lot of ice before having line crews spray de-icing fluids 5 minutes before departure.  We made the flight from Nuuk to Reykjavik in a little over 2 hours.  Our ground speed was 415 Kts – we had tail wind of almost 100 Kts while crossing the North Atlantic.

We had a great time in Reykjavik

Here are a few photos taken in Reykjavik.  More Reykjavik photos to follow on our return trip home. Off to Normandy tomorrow.

 Prestwick , Scotland

While on the way to Normandy yesterday we diverted because of weather and stayed overnight at Prestwick , Scotland in the UK.  Picture of our hotel and view from our hotel room. On the way to Normandy France this morning.

Normandy, France

We stayed in Bayeux, one of the first towns liberated on June 6, 1944.

Bunker Museum

Replica of life in a bunker fire control center.  Manned by over 20 men, they targeted allied  ships for a battery of 4 large 152 mm guns.  These guns were capable of firing projectiles weighing several thousand pounds many miles.

Munich Germany

Departed Caen, France at noon and landed in Munich Germany in less than 2 hours.  Great flight and good weather all the way.  We have been in Munich several days and really enjoyed our visit. It is a beautiful city with many interesting things to see. Tomorrow we depart Munich and head to Berlin which will be a little over a one hour flight. So far weather has been rainy but over all pretty good.

Berlin Germany

We have enjoyed our visit to Berlin very much. Attached are pictures taken during our two day tour.  Berlin is one of the most beautiful and historical cities we have visited. Tomorrow we fly to Bergen, Norway which is about a two hour flight.

Bergen, Norway Flight

Here are a few pictures taken during our arrival this afternoon into Bergen, Norway.  Our flight from Berlin was about 2.5 hours with great weather.

Bergen, Norway

Enjoyed visiting Bergen, Norway today. This is one of the most beautiful places we have seen.  We will be here one more day and will depart for Reykjavik, Iceland.  We had a great time in Bergen. We will have to come back here someday.

Reykjavik, Iceland

First two pictures show our departure yesterday from Bergen, Norway. We are on the way to Reykjavik, Iceland which is about a 3 hour flight.  We had a great time today at the Blue Lagoon which is located about 20 miles from Reykjavik.  This is a really amazing place. We leave for Ilulissat, Greenland tomorrow which is about a 3 hour flight.

Ilulissat, Greenland

Great flight to Ilulissat, Greenland. About a 3 hour flight from Reykjavik. Ilulissat is 150 miles north of the Arctic Circle .  The icebergs and glaciers are amazing. During the summer months, the sun stays at 12 high and never sets.

Iqaluit, Canada

Yesterday we departed Ilulissat, Greenland and arrived Iqaluit in Canada.  We had quite an interesting ramp check at the Iqaluit airport. No problems and we made some canine friends.

Quebec, Canada

We have really enjoyed  Quebec. This is probably one of the most interesting and beautiful cities we have visited in Canada.

St. Louis, MO

After departing Quebec we stopped over one night in St. Louis, MO. About a 3.5 hour leg.

Finally Home

Arrived home yesterday after a 2.5 hour flight from St. Louis, MO.

Our trip to Europe this summer was amazing with many stops through Canada, Greenland, Iceland and Europe.  We have flown in excess of 10,950 nautical miles (12,600 statute miles) for a total of approximately 40 flight hours.  Our favorite place — the USA and of course Fredericksburg, Texas.
